Saturday April 17, 2010 is National Record Store Day.
Hundreds of stores across the US will be celebrating this day the unique culture of the independent record store. Record stores are like restaurants: they may have a few of the same things on the menu, but they each have their specialties and individual personalities.
What are we doing?
To kick off our celebration of Record Store Day, we will will handing out grab bags to our first 75 paying customers. The bags will be filled with promo & used cds, stickers, buttons, vintage 7"s, posters, keychains etc. We received some really interesting cds from various labels for the grab bags this year. Some of the cds will be promos of current releases, others will be promos of cds through the years- everything from currently unknown artists to obscure titles: Yeasayer, T. Rex, Jonathan Richman, Billy Bragg, Gil Scott Heron, the Pixies, etc.
Also, we will be randomly be putting $20 Crooked Beat Gift Certificates in 5 of the bags.
Here is the link of most of the releases that are scheduled to come out Record Store Day.
More titles are still being added each day, so it's still not a definitive list.

STORE HOURS ON RECORD STORE DAY
Due to the amount of emails and phone calls we have received about our store hours on Record Store Day, we have decided we are going to open the store an hour earlier . So instead of normally opening at 12 noon,
we will be opening the store at 11 AM and closing at 9:30 PM on Record Store Day - Saturday April 17th.
EXCLUSIVE RELEASES FOR RECORD STORE DAY
We are going to have most of the vinyl releases that are scheduled to come out that day. Since all of these releases are limited pressings, the labels have said they are going to allocate only so many titles per store. So, for example, though we ordered 40 of the Bon Iver/Peter Gabriel split 7" and 20 of each of the Joe Strummer- lp releases, we may in fact receive quanities considerably less than the initial order due to the limited amounts that are being pressed.
And, just like the previous Record Store Days in the years past, we will not be able to hold items for anyone.
Also, Record Store Day Exclusive items will be available in Crooked Beat's physical store only beginning on Saturday, April 17th. These items will be sold on a first come, first serve basis.
To be fair to all of the people who will be waiting in line, we are limiting quantities to one copy per title per customer. This means that if someone wants to buy multiple copies of a particular title, such as the Rolling Stones-Plundered My Soul 7" or Phoenix- Fences 12", they will only be able to buy 1 of each on Record Store Day.
But on the day after (April 18th) if there are still items available there will be no limitations on how many of an indivividual title one can buy.
Just to name a few, some Highlights of the Releases for Record Store Day 2010 are:
Flaming Lips- Dark Side Of The Moon 12"
Phoenix - Fences LP
Sonic Youth - Sex, EVOL, Hits Are For Squares LPs
Bruce Springsteen - Wercking Ball/Ghost of Tom Joad 10"

**New Record Store Day info**
This week we will start displaying (in a glass fixture in the store) most of the Record Store Day 7" titles. We are doing this in order to let customers know more about what is coming out, since there are so many releases for this years Record Store Day. However, items will not be for sale until Record Store Day on Sat.
For our online customers: Any titles that remain in the store on Sunday April 18th will then be made available via our online store.
Hope this info answers some of the questions we have received. Thanks & see you on Saturday, April 17th.
Thanks, Bill, Helen & staff
